Last summer was one of the hottest on record in DC. It was not a good time to be using public transportation if you were wearing a suit... which was me most days. Stepping on the crowded train after baking on the platform in the hot sun, the sweat was already pouring down my back... I HATE sweaty back... which I refer to as "swack." Each day, when I arrived at the office, my suit and shirt were practically destroyed from sweat, and I was completely drenched and beyond aggravated that I needed another shower before even arriving at the office.
This year, I decided to take a new approach. I have been leaving suits at the office and wearing gym clothes on Metro to the office. I arrive at work, change out of gym attire and into my suit. For one thing, I am sparing my clothes from looking like I strolled through a fountain. Second, I am much cooler and less revolting during my commute and when I arrive. And if I need to, it is much more convenient to use the shower and transition from gym clothes, rather than dealing with a sweat-soaked suit.
Another benefit to this new approach is that after work, I change back into gym clothes and either go right to the gym and home, OR on my off nights from the gym, directly home. It's great because either way, I don't have to dread the commute home, only to be sweaty and nasty in the suit on Metro. Cool comfort and less sweat are two things I enjoy. It's worth the extra time to get changed at the office each morning.
